The Sanibin is used to dispose of feminine hygiene
waste i.e. sanitary towels.
It is usually a compact unit to be found in the ladies toilet that is serviced regularly by an authorised waste carrier who will arrange for the disposal of the waste in a manner that meets all current guidelines and controls and regulation in force in the UK. It is not acceptable to simply dispose of sanitary waste down the toilet, it WILL block drains. Throwing it in a bin is not acceptable either. Sanitary waste is a controlled waste under Health and Safety, and needs to be disposed of in the correct manner. The 'Duty of Care' Act demands that sanitary waste is
managed to a point of disposal. Waste must be carried by a licensed carrier, and
a full audit trail of documentation must be available at all times. Failure to
comply can lead to a hefty fine. This applies to all commercial premises, even
if only one female is employed. There is no such thing as a soluble sanitary towel or tampon. Flushing
sanitary items down the toilet, pollutes rivers and coastlines and may result in
blocked drains. From a survey of 452 river and canal sites the Environment
Agency found 34% of sites had sewerage derived litter, such as sanitary towels.
